Applications are open for the 2022 United Nations Thomas Lovejoy Memorial Fellowship in Journalism. The Journalism Fellowship will bring a group of journalists into the heart of the Amazon to explore issues of biodiversity, deforestation and sustainable development | united nations fellowship program 2022 .
The trip will take place in the week of October 17, 2022 against the backdrop of the national elections to determine the next president of Brazil, just three weeks before COP27, and two months before the biodiversity conference in December.
United Nations Fellowship 2022
The fellowship is named after the late Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, the famous ecologist and first fellow of the United Nations Foundation who first popularized the term “biodiversity”. Ten journalists will travel to Manaus, Brazil before spending three days at a remote research station in the Amazon, known as Camp 41, where they will have the opportunity to take guided tours of the world’s largest rainforest to have united nations millennium fellowship .

Eligibility requirements for joining the UN fellowship 2022
It is open to journalists interested in covering climate change, sustainable development, biological sciences, and environmental issues, including biodiversity, deforestation, agriculture, nature-based climate solutions, and land use.
We welcome journalists from all countries.
Participating journalists are expected to publish two to four stories on the topics covered within six months of the fellowship’s conclusion.

About Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, the founder of the United Nations Fellowship 2022
Dr. Lovejoy has been an important member of the United Nations Foundation, advising leaders on biodiversity and environmental science, initially as an advisor to the foundation’s founding president, former US Senator Tim Wirth, and later as a Senior Fellow. He is widely credited with placing the threat of tropical deforestation and biodiversity loss high on the global agenda. As early as the 1980’s, he produced the first study of global extinction rates, and correctly predicted the mass species loss seen today | united nations international law fellowship programme .
