about the grant

APPLY FOR 2022 LATVIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO STUDY IN LATVIA. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE ADMINISTERED UNDER THE STATE AGENCY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION; VIAA IN LATVIAN. VIAA IN LATVIA IS A DIRECT ADMINISTRATIVE INSTITUTION OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE.

latvian government scholarships are dedicated applicants who wish to pursue a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree. these grants are available to international students planning to apply for the 2022/23 academic year. if you are applying for a bachelor’s degree and the first level of vocational higher education studies, you must have successfully completed at least one academic year of study at the time of application. this may be at your home higher education institution or in a latvian higher education institution, if they have already been studying in latvia.

the duration of the program as follows

• scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s studies will be awarded for one academic year

• master’s degrees in latvian language, latvian literature, latvian culture and latvian history can be awarded for two years as academics covering the entire duration of the master’s degree program.

a brief description

funding:

• researchers in bachelor’s and master’s studies will receive a monthly salary of €500.

• phd recipients will receive a monthly salary of €700

• the grant holder will use a scholarship to cover tuition (if this applies) or for accommodation and meals.

• there is the possibility for the host higher education institution to provide the grant holder with a place in a student dormitory or guest house.

eligibility criteria:

• applicants must be citizens of countries that have signed an agreement with latvia or provide scholarships to latvian citizens

• although the language of education in latvian higher education institutions is primarily latvian, there are many study programmes offered in english.

• similarly, you will be asked to meet the requirements of english/other language

• finally, applicants for the bachelor’s degree programme must have completed at least one academic year of study

how to apply:

applicants must apply online. you’ll first have to register and create your profile.

you will then complete the application form and attach the necessary documents as described below

• First, your latest CV using europas template form

• secondly, you should write a motivational letter and include activities outside studies related to the field of study in latvia or in the home country.

• copies of higher education certificates and supplements or a copy of the records of the last two semesters (if studies are not completed);

• you must request two letters of recommendation from faculty, signed over the past six months.

• applicants must submit a study plan for the duration of the grant

• a copy of a certificate or other document proving the language proficiency required for the study.

• a copy of an identity card (identity document) or passport.
