- The Olympiad is organized by the Federation of World Universities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Citizens Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudichestvo).
The competition is aimed at talented foreign students who want to enroll in master’s and postgraduate programs in Russia for free.
Open Doors winners are granted free early admission to any Russian university, without entrance exams and with tuition fees covered by the Russian Federation.
The winners of the competition will be able to register for a program using the single window system, choosing any of the Russian universities. The language of instruction is English or Russian depending on the chosen program and university. - The Olympiad has two tracks – for prospective master’s and doctoral students (similar to a PhD). The Olympiad is held over two rounds for the Master’s track and three rounds for the PhD track (similar to a PhD). The first round is a prefect competition, and the second round is a problem-solving challenge. The third round of the Olympiad involves selecting a potential research supervisor for the chosen PhD program (similar to a PhD) and interviewing him/her.
The competition is open to foreign nationals and stateless persons, including citizens living abroad, who hold a bachelor’s degree or complete a bachelor’s degree program in the Olympiad year of the master’s track and to obtain a master’s degree or specialization in the doctoral track (similar to a Ph.D.) in the year of the Olympiad.

Competition mechanism to win one of the scholarships in Russia
Olympic tracks
scholarships in Russia The Olympiad is held in two directions – for undergraduate and future graduate students (doctoral students). Depending on the chosen direction, the winners of the Olympiad will be able to study for free in master’s or postgraduate studies of the chosen university.
There are two rounds for a master’s course and three rounds for a doctoral course. The first round is a portfolio competition and the second round is a problem solving challenge.
The third round of the PhD program involves selection of a potential supervisor for the chosen PhD program and an interview with him/her.
The first two rounds of the Olympiad are held simultaneously in both directions of the Olympiad.
