- The University of Surrey is a public research university in Guilford, Surrey, England. The university received its royal charter in 1966, along with a number of other institutions based on recommendations in the Robbins Report. The institution was formerly known as Battersea College of Technology and is located in Battersea Park, London. However, its roots go back to Battersea Polytechnic, which was founded in 1891 to provide further and higher education in London, including its poorer residents. It is also part of the SETsquared partnership alongside the University of Bath, University of Bristol, University of Southampton and University of Exeter.
